Vehicle Donation Information

Whether you would like a tax deduction or want an unsightly vehicle out of your driveway, donating your vehicle helps you and the families of Casa Esperanza. Give Hope a Ride accepts all types of vehicles: cars, motorcycles, watercrafts (with trailer), and trucks in virtually any condition.

Benefits of Donating a Vehicle

Requirements for Donating:

– You must have a clear title (no liens) in your name or have legal documentation to donate the vehicle

– If there is a second owner, they may be required to sign the donation paperwork

– The owner(s) must sign the following documents at the time of donation:

o Seller line of the title

o Affidavit of Gift – Documents the donation

o Limited Durable Power of Attorney – Allows Casa Esperanza to correct specific mistakes, if needed

o Bill of Sale

o Additional information may be needed if there are special circumstances, for example, an out of state title will require additional information

– You may remove your license plate, or we will remove it prior to the auction

1) How To Donate a Vehicle:

2) Towing a Donated Vehicle:

a. Casa Esperanza contracts with Bones Towing and Salvage to pick up donated vehicles

b. You will need to complete small amount of required paperwork ahead of us requesting a tow.

c. Towing requests will be fulfilled within 3 business days of the donation

d. The driver has the right to refuse the tow if the vehicle is not in towing condition, or if the paperwork has not been completed.

 

3) Post Sale Information

a. After the vehicle sells the donor will receive one of the following letters:

i. Sale Price is $500.00 or less – This letter will let you know that the vehicle has sold, however, a W-9 is not needed for tax purposes. The letter or Receipt of Donation will be sufficient to claim your tax deduction.

ii. Sale Price is greater than $500.00 – This letter will detail the exact amount of sale price and information about how to claim your tax deduction. Additionally, this letter will let you know if we have a W-9 on file or not.

iii. If we do not receive a fully completed W-9 we will not be able to provide a 1098C for your donation at the end of the year.
